We ate breakfast at the hotel and headed for the drive to “Waimea Canyon,” along the south and west shores of “Kauai”. On our way we stopped at “Salt Pond Beach.”
We then stopped for shaved ice at “JoJo’s clubhouse”. According to our book on “Kauai” they have the best shaved ice on the island. It was very yummy. It was so yummy we stopped on our way back to get another one! We stopped along the way to the canyon at a few look out points. The canyon is huge. Our book says Mark Twain said it was the Grand Canyon of the pacific. It measures some 10 miles long, one mile wide, and more then 3, 500 feet deep. We saw the “Waipio Falls.
We went to the “Kalalau look-out” we could look down onto the “Na Pali coast”.
We drove back down the canyon and went to “Poipu Beach” and snorkeled there. It was a lot of fun and we saw a lot of fish there! I saw a lot of the “Kihi Kihi Moorish” fish. I also saw a couple of cool needle nose fish. Michael walked across the sand bar and saw two “Monk Seals.
”The beach is located on the sunny side of “Kauai”. The travel Channel ranked this beach as one of the top in the nation in 2004.
